    QOD 2006-10-09

    Click on OK button and you will have an error. Why?

    Hints:

    • One of the selected options cannot be used with Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
    • Another of the remaining two options will generate an error on Windows 2003 and above as well as on Windows 2000 and Windows XP due to the arguments supplied.

    The answer is:

    "SQL Server 2005 can use Windows password policy mechanisms only on Windows Server 2003 and above(look for must_change option in Books Online)"

    On Windows 2000 and Windows XP you cannot use the MUST_CHANGE option.

     The password complexity checking for Windows 2000 is very simple, you are not allowed to use the following password: null or empty, the computer name, the login name, 'password', 'admin', 'administrator', 'sa', or 'sysadmin'.
