You really won't need step-by-step install instructions. The installer will walk you through the entire process. Just do its steps in order.

I would recommend downloading the SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services installer; Advanced Services supports full-text indexing.

You will want to also download the SQL Server Management Studio Express version for SQL Server 2008 Express:
